Meet the birds

The birds below have been identified as species of interest for the SaP project, both through observations by members of public, and by flower-foraging behavior discussed in academic papers. While, ideally, we would ask for pollen samples from sites throughout the United States, we are focusing on states along the Pacific Coast of North America: the western flyway. However, we welcome observations/photos of any and all North American songbirds foraging in flowers.

In addition to songbirds, we ask that bird-banding collaborators collect pollen from hummingbirds when possible, so that we can understand if there is a difference in flowering plant preference between songbirds and hummingbirds.
